@estaesta You are obviously not a vintage lover and that's OK.This fragrance has been around before you were even a thought.

Before creating Tabu, he was instructed to make a fragrance for a whore (‘un parfum de puta’). Its luscious oriental floral composition starts with fresh citrus and spicy notes.

I wear it sometimes to remember my grandfather and always makes me a bit teary eyed when I wear it around the house. From Tabu I get a sort of moist and warm amber, spices, sweetness, an incense kind of accord, a dry and woody vetiver, mixed florals and finally, a cassis type of a slightly pissy smell. I got into vintages after exhausting the gourmand genre (haha) and I tried Youth Dew prematurely.... It's sweeter than YD, but still too musky and old/generic. The first time I put it on it was too sweet, and reminded me of toilet bowl cleaner. Then, a week later I retrieved it from the bin and gave it one more try. One spray only, but after the drydown it's quite nice. I only get a compliment when someone gets near, or close to me. After all, the same nose that created this, Jean Charles, also created Miss Dior, back in 1947.

I think its a great addition to your collection if you are interested in perfume history, plus its really cheap. In a good way, if there is such a thing as a good pissy smell. The patchouli is clearly detectable in here too, adding to the hippyish incense vibe. it was one of my first vintage blind buys and it was just waaaay too "old granny" so I sold it. (Reformulations and the drug store status/price I suppose.) As far as Tabu-type scents go, I prefer original Obsession. but here we are in winter already (November in Upper Michigan) and I LOVE BOTH NOW! I started a cozy day at home with Youth Dew cologne on my torso (finely misted), a drop of the YD bath oil on my clavicle "dip", and then about 6 hours later-- put on Tabu cologne over the whole package. I can tell I like it because I keep smelling my arm. I avoided this for the longest time, thinking this would be heavy and overpowering.

i have respect for perfumes not the romantic marketing stories that come with products that become out of whack with what it really is.

btw shalimar my signature is from 1925 and its history is iconic.

But this is still powerful with some strong dominating notes, so I do not think this is office-friendly or crowd-safe, nor anywhere you will be in close quarters with someone for all day/hours.
